Unifor Local 444

You are the Union!

You are the Union!

You are the union! You, the membership. You must not consider The Union as the local: the Executives and the Stewards with yourselves as a sort of outer fringe. You are The Union!

It is only through you that the Union can adapt to the changing conditions of the workplaces. You are the voice and the motor that drives our purpose!

At the core, WE are working men and women, unified as one force! Despite any personal differences that may exist between us, we have banded together to protect and improve the lives of workers. We rise up TOGETHER for the greater good. We defend one another like family, because we are family.

It was written long ago and it still remains true: A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

There is a lot going on in our industries, cities, province, country, and the world. We will keep fighting for our causes like we always do: together. I believe our main fight and focus will always be primarily in our workplaces. Fighting for us on the ground and in our facilities is what I do. It is who I am and that’s where our primary focus will be as a local. We will stay informed and engaged and be a voice where we need to be. In areas of politics, we will back candidates and support candidates or parties who are willing to fight OUR fight. We will pressure governments where it pertains to our jobs. But the focus of the local must remain primarily in our work places. Membership first.

I am both honoured and excited to have the opportunity to serve as President for the membership of Unifor Local 444. I undertake this role as President at a time where unions are needed more than ever as employers try to maximize profits and set a lower worth of our labour. To face this current environment, we as a Union, must stand together to reinforce our long-standing strength and solidarity for all of our Membership and to fight for a worth we deserve. A strong local is needed for these battles and the strongest locals are those who put their membership first.

With Respect and Friendship

In Solidarity
